SAMR is a model designed to help educators evaluate their level of technology integration.

The SAMR model is constructed as a ladder with two levels at the top of the ladder and two levels at the bottom. The top levels are ones that transform and the bottom levels are ones that enhance. Teachers essentially began at the bottom and work their way up. When a teacher begins "teaching about the line" they are transforming the students methods of learning. 

The teacher must ask herself if the technology is a form of Substitution? Augmentation? Modification? Or Redefinition? 

1. Substitution: no functional change
2. Augmentation: some functional improvement
teach above the line
3. Modification: significant task redesign
4. Redefinition: creation of new tasks

In my current classroom, I am in the augmentation phase. We do not use a lot of technology in the classroom besides playing a few videos and using minimal applications on the Smartboard. When I am in my own classroom, I want to incorporate more technology into the curriculum. I think that technology can enhance the lessons that I am trying to teach. I envision more interacting lessons using the Smartboard. Being that my students are young, I think that I will comfortable in the modification stage.

    I really enjoyed reading your post ! I absolutely understand how you feel about wanting to use more technology in your future classroom. When I first started at my school we did not have a lot of technology and the tech we did have was profoundly underutilized. It was a big challenge to bring technology into our class for a long time. When I read/watched the SAMR activities for this week it really got me thinking about how I use technology in my classroom and how I apply it in my lessons and how I could more thoughtfully incorporate resources into my instruction. One of the areas that I want to increase in my instruction is having my students create video responses and use more digital discussion tools. I think digital story telling is such a cool concept for some of my diverse learners to use in the classroom and I have read about being used in younger grades.

    I also chose SAMR. I appreciate your post. Much of my work is reaching out to parents about health and nutrition. It has always been a challenge to motivate families to attend parent meetings. In addition to providing newsletters, our staff has been brainstorming on how to integrate technology into parent engagement.
