What Does Active Listening Really Mean! When you mention active listening it is more involved then just hearing someone tell a story. In the classroom, active listening means that students are taking an "active" approach to their learning. They are engaged with the material and taking some control over how and what they are learning. The teacher is nearby to serve as a facilitator giving students the opportunity to do some learning on their own. Our activity and how it relates to active listening  My group and I read a blog about student feedback. The students were given a creative project and were given the task of critique the work of their friends. After reviewing the responses, the instructor decided to expand the lesson to include how to give appropriate feedback. Using the transcripts of the previous responses, she cut them into strips and had the students sort each comment into one of three categories: neutral feedback, strong feedback, and nonsense feedback. Mapping your digital space

Image
Before this assignment, I had never heard of "mapping" your digital space. I was confused as to what it actually meant and how I was going to do it. After reading and watching the corresponding videos, I better understand the concept and the importance of understanding one's interaction with the internet. It is actually a very interesting concept and helps to show you or someone else how and why the person digitally interacts. When I first began to think about the assignment, I thought that I truly understood how I spent my time on the internet. I know that the bulk of my time is spent on social media apps. I know that I do a lot of online shopping. Sometimes I look up ideas for a classroom project. In the end, I was a little surprised by the results. image from: http://experimental.worldcat.org/vandrmapping /shareMap/0c2a2633-cd88-4315-aa02-0c2fb0caa739#.XOdYyGXZl3A.email   I was most surprised at how little of my time is spent on institutional aspects. SAMR is a model designed to help educators evaluate their level of technology integration. The SAMR model is constructed as a ladder with two levels at the top of the ladder and two levels at the bottom. The top levels are ones that transform and the bottom levels are ones that enhance. Teachers essentially began at the bottom and work their way up. When a teacher begins "teaching about the line" they are transforming the students methods of learning.  The teacher must ask herself if the technology is a form of Substitution? Augmentation? Modification? Or Redefinition?  1. Substitution: no functional change 2. Augmentation: some functional improvement teach above the line 3. Modification: significant task redesign 4. Redefinition: creation of new tasks http://langwitches.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/SAMR-Model.jpg In my current classroom, I am in the augmentation phase. We do not use a lot of technology in the classroom besides playing a few vid...
