Mapping your digital space
Before this assignment, I had never heard of "mapping" your digital space. I was confused as to what it actually meant and how I was going to do it. After reading and watching the corresponding videos, I better understand the concept and the importance of understanding one's interaction with the internet. It is actually a very interesting concept and helps to show you or someone else how and why the person digitally interacts.
When I first began to think about the assignment, I thought that I truly understood how I spent my time on the internet. I know that the bulk of my time is spent on social media apps. I know that I do a lot of online shopping. Sometimes I look up ideas for a classroom project. In the end, I was a little surprised by the results.
I was most surprised at how little of my time is spent on institutional aspects. I am currently an assistant in a preschool room and I feel like it shows! I would imagine that when I began teaching full-time, that I will have more interaction with sites such as Power Teacher, teacherspayteachers, LinkedIn, and other apps that will help me to run my classroom more efficiently. I need to began expanding my digital life in this area. I think that it will benefit me greatly to become accustomed to these websites and applications prior to my first year of teaching.
The majority of my time was spent in personal use. I use the internet a lot in my personal time. It gives me a chance to unwind, shop, and try out new things. I spent the bulk of my personal time as a resident due to Facebook and Instagram interaction. They both serve as a way to not only socialize with friends and family, but it also connects with me with other teachers, helps me to find recipes, and to keep up with current events. When thinking about it, they both serve as personal and instructional tools without me being aware of it.
As I continue to grow as a teacher and as a person, I am certain that my digital interaction will continue to change. I see this as a great thing. I want to be able to connect with current events and technology in order to best reach my students.
Check out my favorite apps when you get a chance. Maybe you can add to your digital map!

I agree that as you change stages in your career your map will begin to look differently. Perhaps being in this course this semester will help add some additional applications to your professional side as we go!
ReplyDeleteI really do think that the fact that I'm the assistant creates a barrier for me as it relates ot accessing information. I find that my social media usage is way too high and a lot of the time I am just scrolling. I'm looking forward to changing that very soon and making my digital interactions more purposeful.
