Hello Everyone!



My name is Mercedes but I am known to my students as Ms. C. I am a paraprofessional in a special needs preschool room and I LOVE my job! I have the most fun with my students and co-workers. I am currently pursuing my masters in SPED and hope to have my own special education classroom room in January.

My students mean everything to me. They are apart of my family now. I give each student a nickname when they enter my classroom and the kids really love being apart of our group. Relationships are one of the best parts of my job.

My favorite things include: 
  1. Couponing (don't judge it until you try it )
  2. DIYing random things off of Pinterest
  3. Creating and designing things for my classroom

My most important job is being a mom to my three children. They are 5, 7, and 9. They keep me very busy but I learn so much from them and they help me a better teacher and a better person. On the weekends you can find us making cookies, hosting family game night, or popping popcorn for our family movie nights. We spend a lot of time together!

    Welcome, Mercedes! It must be awesome to be so "crafty". My mom was very creative that way, as is my daughter but it skipped over me I'm afraid. Thanks for sharing the pictures from your farm unit. When you do get your own classroom are you looking to stay near the pre-school age or are you interested in older grades too? Looking forward to learning with you this summer.

    Hi Mercedes!

    First, I have to say I love your creativity. If we were teaching in the same building I would come to you for ideas. I teach second grade, and although I like to craft, I am not as creative in the classroom. I am sure your students love coming in and seeing a new theme each time. I also hope, you sharing all of your ideas on Pinterest too! Best of luck in your future classroom as well!

    Hi Mercedes!

    First off, I want to say I love how crafty you are! All of your work is amazing! I know that takes a lot of time and dedication. As a teacher with a paraprofessional, know that you are so important and are valued! I cannot agree with you more when you said that building relationships with the students is the best part of your job. I was just talking about this with one of my friends. I enjoy teaching, but it wouldn’t be as fun if I didn’t have the relationships I do with the students. We laugh, we joke, we dance, but most of all we build a community where everyone is valued and everyone is loved. Also, being a new mom (my daughter is 2) has definitely changed me as a teacher. It has helped me gain a deeper understanding of my parents and be concious of including them in our classroom. Thanks for sharing and you have a beautiful family! I look forward to learning with you!

What Does Active Listening Really Mean! When you mention active listening it is more involved then just hearing someone tell a story. In the classroom, active listening means that students are taking an "active" approach to their learning. They are engaged with the material and taking some control over how and what they are learning. The teacher is nearby to serve as a facilitator giving students the opportunity to do some learning on their own. Our activity and how it relates to active listening  My group and I read a blog about student feedback. The students were given a creative project and were given the task of critique the work of their friends. After reviewing the responses, the instructor decided to expand the lesson to include how to give appropriate feedback. Technology in Education revisited

I learned a lot about technology in education while in this course. I can admit that I was not overly concerned about using a lot of technology in the classroom. In my current class, we only use the smartboard from time to time. Being that I work in a preschool room, we are encouraged to only use the smartboard for more than a few minutes per day (our class is 2.5 hours per day). This fall, I will be student teaching in a 1 st /2 nd grade room, so I am beyond excited to use some of the tools that I have learned about. A favorite tool of mine is screencastify . I had never heard of the application and was nervous to begin using it. I wan unable to figure out how to use it for the first blog that required it but I was able to use it effectively for the next one. I learned how to add my voice and to switch between screens all while making a video for my students.
